Madison County offers the best of iconic America, and we think you’ll be surprised by how much it has to offer. You may find that you need to extend your stay to two or three days. Getting Here

Madison County couldn’t be easier to get to. It is located in south central Iowa, just thirty-five miles from the capital of Des Moines, two hours from Omaha, less than three hours from Kansas City, four hours from Minneapolis, and less than six hours from Chicago. The county seat of Winterset is located just fifteen miles south of I-80 and less than fifteen miles west of I-35.

Step-on Guided Covered Bridge Tours

Time: 2 hours

These tours must be arranged in advance. Group Tours are for commercial motorcoach companies, bank travel clubs, or any organization charging their passengers. Families, friends, car clubs, or organizations not charging passengers fall under Personal Tours. Everyone who books one of our guided tours must provide their own transportation and have a seat available for the tour guide.

The covered bridges of Madison County are our specialty! Our expert step-on guides will lead your group’s excursion to several of our world-famous bridges, where your guests will have a chance to walk through them while learning all about their history and the filming of the movie “The Bridges of Madison County.” Along the way, you’ll hear lots of wonderful stories about Madison County and the famous people who made it so special. The fee for the tour is $10 per person. We provide you with two comps.
